- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)writing. There was no Irish spoken in those schools and if the children were caught speaking it the teacher used to slap them. They wrote in the wall with a burned piece of a kippen.
The teachers got very little pay in those days. The children had to give them a penny each every Monday morning. They also had to bring a sod each of turf for the fire and if they did not they would get slapped.
There was another school in Ballinderry. The names of the teachers were Mrs Delape, Mrs Hardiman, Mr Mike Burke and Mr Charlie O'Brien.
