Long ago it was always rushes but nowadays it is candles. Twelve rushes were pulled and dryed and dipped in tallow. Then they were lighted and the rosary said while they were burning.
Maudie Fahey - St. Stephen's Day always falls on the 26th of December, the day after Christmas day. There is always a lot of fun on that day. On that day the people dress in coloured clothes and go out as wren(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
