   Houses
   Long ago all the houses were small and thatched. In most of the hoses there were two rooms and a kitchen the kitchen at one end of the house nd two rooms at the other end. In some of the houses there was a settle bed and it was usually in the kitchen. The house was thatched with wheathen straw but some of these houses were thatched with sedge which was got in boggy land. In the top there was bobbeens to prevent the rain from coming down between the layers of straw. In the houses where there was a settled the young people of the house slept in it and if there were old people in the house they took a stretch in it during the day. The houses were made of stones and mortar but where stones were scarce they made the house with daub. I heard that some of these mud houses can be seen still in Meath and Westmeath. There was one
