- Tis well I remember the night of the big wind that was in February 1903. It did great damage to the places around. I was only a young lad at the time but just the same it is fresh in my mind yet. It unroofed thatched houses and left many a person without a home. I remember seeing a wall knocked from one end of the field to the other. There were ships thrown up in the rocks in Ardfry and around the coasts of Galway. There were big trees thrown across roads in the morning which were uprooted by the wind. It knocked cocks of hay and the hay was scattered all around the fields. I will remember that wind until I die, but I hope I will never hear such a wind again. It was the worst wind I ever heard.
