- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)When pilgrims pass by the Altar they throw a pebble near its mouth each time they go around. The path around has been spoiled and made almost impossible by a deep pit from which rubble was removed only about two years ago when this new road was being made. This was unnecessary vandalism on the part of the ganger who could have got the material a few yards farther on. Tradition has it that when one of the trees was cut down many years ago by a man called Pigott a chalice was found in a hollow in it. It is said that it was hidden in the tree at the time that the priest - hunters were busy. The well is situated in the townland of Cappagh near the town of Dunmore and directly east from Shanballymoe national school. It is on the lower slope of a rough, healthy, rocky, mountainside with a far-reaching view to the south and east. Many cures are said to have been effected here in olden times, but not many have been recorded lately.
