The women are fond of ear-rings, and rings for their fingers. They are an easy-going people not like the tinkers. Usually they are good looking, with tanned, brown skins. Usually there are three or four caravans together and they have a number of pie-bald ponies, and some goats which supply them with milk. The women tell fortunes to the country girls but their hands must be crossed with silver first. They tell fortunes by reading the lines in the palm of the hand, and sometimes after the gipsey and the young girl have taken a cup of tea, the gipsey tells the fortune by reading the cup.
