- (continued from previous page)Long ago there was a bed kept in the kitchen. It was placed near the fire end called a press bed or settle bed. The settle bed was closed and used for a seat in the day time.
The front of the chimney used to be made of wattles. The wattles were woven between posts. Rushlights, bog - deal splinters, dip candles and rosin candles were used in olden times.
The rushes were peeled and dipped in grease. A supply of rushlights was made and hung in a basket from the roof. The woman(continues on next page)
