- Old HousesLong ago people had no windows in their houses but instead of windows they had a little door to let in the light. Other people had a little panel of glass to serve as a window, They had to pay taxes on each pane of glass.
The floors were made of yellow clay and lime. Some floors were made of clay alone.
They had two half -doors. They had bog deal for fire.
For candles they had two or three chops of deal tied together which they lighted in the fire. When they were lighted they left them on the hob and they were able to light around the house.
The houses were made of earth. They were thatched with rushes and straw.
There was a bed in the kitchen near the fire.
The fire was in the centre of the house.
The chimneys were made of wood and mortar.
The doors of the houses were scraws hanging from the roof. When they wanted to go out they pushed them out before them.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
