- Potatoes are the principle crop in this district. The people usually sow about one acre of potatoes. The farmers have a busy time when they are sowing the potatoes. At first they till the land then they make drills and manure then they spread the seeds and then they close the drills again. everyone usually sows their potatoes with the plough, it is very seldom they sow them with the spade.
There are no wooden plough used now. The iron ploughs and spades are Irish manufactured. The people help each other when they are sowing and digging the potatoes. The potatoes are stored in a pit. The pit is dug long and narrow and is covered with straw and clay.
The local names of the potatoes are namely: - the red and white champion, ken pink, epicure, garden-filler, arn-banner, dates, queens, golden wonder, and arn-victors. The red champions are the best potatoes in this district.- Bailitheoir
