   Croaghill.

   Croaghill is the name of my home district. It is in the barony of Templetogher and in the barony of Ballymoe. There are twelve families in it and about sixty people. Mitchells and Morgans are the commonest family names in it. Three-roomed, thatched houses are the usual types of houses in it.
   Croaghill got its name from a hill and a wood in it, Cruaighil. Mrs. Cooney is the only person over seventy in it. She tells no stories Malachi Mitchell is nearly seventy. He has some Irish. Houses were more numerous in the district formerly. There are four ruins in the village. It was the usual custom for the men and boys in the village to go to England for each Harvest. They were home again for Winter. These men were called spailpíns or Harvesters. Many people also left the village for America in former times.
   The north east of the village is very boggy. The remainder of the land is fairly (very) good. These was a small wood in it, called Rabbits wood but it is nearly all cut down now. There is a small lake forming a boundary between Croaghill and Carraneeny called "the Turlough." There is a stream running
