- There are a lot of old houses in my district. Most are fell now with age but some of the walls are standing up yet. There is a very old house beside Pollea. It is all gone except the walls. There was a little room cut through the kitchen wall and there used to be a small bed in it which was called the "cailleach". It was there the people used to sleep. It was an old bed made of timber and iron. They had no stables. They used to have a hole cut in the wall for the dog to sleep in and it was called "Poll an mhadard". They used to have no turf hardly except a small little reak beside the house. At night they used to burn bog-deal and it used to show them light. They used to get the bog-deal in the bog under the turf. When the boys used to be doing their lessons at night one boy would hold a piece of it up for the boys to do their lessons.
