1. The Man who Got Lost in the Cliff (ar lean)

   looked around to see what was it. He saw a big seal coming towards him with a big white trout in his mouth. The seal gave the trout to a young seal which was lying on the side of the cave and off she went again. The man got up and went over to where the little seal was, and he took the fish of it. Then he said to himself ah if I only had a fire I could roast it.

   He put his hand in his pocket to see had he a match but he could not find any. As he was doing so he felt his pocket went and he said to himself what wet it. Then he turned it inside out and what did he find but gun powder stuck to it. He thought for a moment and he said to himself, perhaps it would light if I knock sparks out of a stone and hold the cloth to them. He did so and one of them caught on to the cloth and it blazed in his hands. Then he gathered up a pile of sticks and put the lighting cloth into the middle of it. The sticks were so dry that they blazed up and he shoved the fish into the middle of the lighting sticks. When it was roasted he pulled it out and he eat it very greedily because he was very hungry.

   The seal used to come with fish to the young seal three or four times a day and
