   of Sping Lawn, Mount Bellew walked many times to and from Galway. James Burns of Spring Lawn often walked to Dublin when going to England.

   Great Jumpers
   These men, namely William Barrett of Newtown, Mountbellew, Edward Delaney of Newbridge, Mountbellew and Thomas Fleming of Spring Lawn jumped the chapel gate in Mount Bellew which is about seven feet high. Edward Delaney also jumped two scythes standing upright with the blade turned outwards one and other overhead. Pat Mulry of Newbridge, Mount Bellew jumped across the Mount Bellew river a distance of seventeen feet one day when escaping from police after a fight in Mount Bellew.

   Great Mowers
   The three best mowers in this district were John Higgins, Mick Quinn and William Fleming. They usually mowed three roods each every day and often they mowed an acre each.

   Noted dancers
   Thomas Barrett of Newtown Mount Bellew was a noted step dancer. He used to dance at all weddings. One night he was at a wedding near Moylough where he was dancing for some hours. Later he went outside but
