- In addition to information already given from other sources previously in this book, Mrs Mc Morrow supplies the following:
(a) The people lived on the products of the farm - potatoes - oatmeal - bacon - butter - milk
(b) "Mixed milk" was used with potatoes. "Mixed milk" meant a mixture of sweet milk and buttermilk.
(c) Tea was rarely used until about 80 years ago.
(d) The wooden mugs out of which people drank were called "piggins". A larger wooden vessel was called a "noggin". - Boxty was made by grating raw potatoes, wringing the water off them, mixing them with flour and frying them on the pan.
Plenty of butter was eaten with it.
Oatmeal bannocks were made by mixing oatmeal with boiling water. They were placed standing before the fire until they were as hard as a bone. These were found to be very sustaining. - The house was built of stone and mortar, they were thatched(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
