What they call Biddy is, they dress up an old turnip in clothes representing a child and one of the boys acts as a woman. When he goes into the house he sits at the fire with the child on "her" knee and he starts to scratch, he always carries a grain of salt and makes out he is catching fleasa nd he puts in the salt to the fire and it starts to crack and the people think it is fleas he is catching. They get fourpence or fivepence in every house, they stay nearly a quarter of an hour playing tricks.The Twelve Days of Christmas.
The old people always remarked that the twelve months of the year follows the twelve days of Xmas, let them be good or bad the first day represents January, the secon February and so on to the end of the year. This is a rhyme I heard from an old person.
On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love sent to me.
