- Marriages took place mostly before Lent and after Lent. Friday and Saturday are said to be unlucky days for marriages. The marriages took place in the house of the Bride and the Priest went to the house to marry them. About forty or fifty years ago the people began to go to the Chapel to be married. They used to walk to the Chapel in pairs. They had a fiddler with them and they danced at every cross-roads. Then when they came back they drank lots of whiskey and ate fowl and then they had dances after. Then the straw-boys came at night they dressed in straw and they wore big, straw hats and had their coats turned inside out. The “Captain” and “Sergeant” would come to the door and ask were they welcome and the man of the house(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
