- Basket-making is done on a small scale in the country districts. Bakers are made from sally rods which the Farmer grows in a garden near his house When these are cut he soaks them in water to make them pliable Then he splits several of them. One he forms into a circle and crosses it with the others. Then he weaves the thin rods, under and over like darning, thus [small drawing of basket] These baskets are used for holding cabbage, apples, potatoes or such like goods, creels or pardóges for donkeys to carry turf, potatoes, turnips and many are made in much the same way as baskets, but there are about ten rods stuck into the ground, and form a circle, and then the thin sallies are woven in and out around these sticks until the creel is completed.
