    May Day is the first day of May. The old people in tis district look forward to that day very much.
    A lot of old people in this district have a number of customs which they perform on that day.
    One custom is that on May Eve a person out of every house goes out to gather flowers usually primroses. He brings a big can with him and gathers away he has the can full. Then he comes home and the people of the house take the flowers and make little paths about half a foot wide from the door of the dwelling house to all the byres and round all the streets. Next they shake them on the floors of the byres in honour of the Blessed Virgin. The old people believe that on that night the Blessed VIrgin walks on the little paths and on every place where they shook the flowers. They also believe that the Blessed irgin will save themselves and their families and their cattle for the coming year.
    Another custom is that no family would throw out ashes on that day for fear they would throw away their luck. The old people say that it is not right to borrow
