- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)of bread made in an oven. This was done so as the crust would not rise off the bread.
Bread was baked in an oven or a griddle or in a pan.
The oaten-bread was baked on a griddle first and then put standing against a support to get hard.
My Grandmother said that her father saw this done in labourers' houses. A brick about a foot and a half square in size was put on the hearth. The fire was put on the brick and when the brick was red hot the fire was brushed off and the oaten-cake was laid on it to bake.
At Christmas and at Easter sweet loaves were made.- Bailitheoir
