  1. There are two forges in the parish of Gurteen. One of the smiths that own them is Martin Wade, Tample, Gurteen, in the town land of Ballyglass., Barony of Tiaquin, Co. Galway. His forge is built near Tample cross- roads. The other forge belongs to Pat Walsh, Cappalusk in the town land of Cappalusk, Barony of Tiaquin, Co. Galway. It is built at a cross- roads.
    The shape of Wade's forge door is oblong and Walshe's door is square. There is one hearth in each forge. The bellows are the shape of a heart. The bellows were not made in the place.
    The tools the smith uses are, the sledge, anvil, vice, rasp, hammer, pincers. chisel, knife, nails, bellows, grinding stone, axe and a saw. He shoes horses and donkeys. The smiths' ancestors were smiths.
