- (continued from previous page)There was one of those schools just outside Carrick-on-Shannon in Lisnagot. The pupils sat on a plank set up on two flat stones and as books were very scarce iin those days, there was only one book for the whole school. The name of this book was "Reading made Easy" or as the old people used to say "raid-o'm'daisy".
The pupils used slates and slate pencils or "cutters".
There was a large bone left on the floor, inside the school door and if a pupil had to go out on any business, he took the bone with him.
A newspaper was a luxury in those days and the school-master usually set his pupils to(continues on next page)
