- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)After some time they arrived at the king's palace and found out the stable where the Steed of Bells was kept.
The Black Thief told them to go very quietly afraid the horse would find them, for if he did he'd ring the bells on his back, and the king would catch them and put them to death. When they came near the stable the steed heard them and rattled the bells on his back and the noise of them was so great that they could be heard miles and miles away.
The bells ringing wakened all in the palace and the king's guards turned out and caught the four robbers and brought them before the king. The king told them that he was going to kill them one after another and that the eldest of the three sons would be killed first. So the king ordered his cook to put down a good fire and put a pot of water on it till he'd kill and boil the eldest son. So the fire was put down and the pot was put on and the king took a big sharp knife and caught the eldest boy and was about to cut off his head.
