- Long ago every farmer used to burn lime. They would have a lime-kiln on their own farms. They used to draw the lime stone from the quarry. When they had drawn it they burned it in the kilns and they used coke fires. They employed men night and day to keep it burning.
When the lime was burned men drew it with horses. The lime was used for manuring the land, and for manuring crops.- Collector
