There was a man there long ago and his name was Tom Sheehy. It is said that he was the strongest man in his day. One day when he was coming home from Tralee he met a companion of his on the road. They both had asses and cars and Tom Sheehy had a big load, and his companion had only a small load. Tom Sheehy's companion challenged him to race him for a mile of the road. Tom Sheehy agreed, and they started the race. Tom Sheehy was leading for the first half mile of the road until his ass got tired, and his companion passed him out. Tom Sheehy did not like to give his companion the soot of beating him. He caught the ass by the hair of the head and pulled him out from under the car, and threw him into it. He went under the car himself and he beat his companion. There are a son and daughter of this man's living in Ballyduf and their children are promising to be local heroes too. The son's name is Patrick Sheehy, and the daughter's name is Mrs. Jeremiah Lawlor.
