Folklore
In olden times there were very few doctors. They had a great many cures for their ailments. The cure they had for tooth ache was to put a leaf of tobacco into the tooth.
The cure they had for a stye in the eye was to get a piece of gooseberry bush with ten thorns in it. They had to point nine of the thorns to the stye and throw away the tenth one and say certain prayers.
A cure the old people had for the chincough was to drink a ferrets leavings or an ass's milk. They had also another cure for chincough was if you met a man riding on a white horse and whatever he would tell you was supposed to be the cure.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
