In olden times houses were made out of stone and clay made into mortar. Every house had two apartments, namely, the kitchen and a room.
The windows were small and mats made out of straw were used in them instead of glass Straw-mats were also used instead of doors.
The houses were usually thatched with rushes. There was a bed in the corner of the kitchen. The fire was usually placed against the gable wall.
