    teacher and he would take the school from him and teach the children.
    The greatest part of the teachers in the hedge schools had houses of their own They had no salary except what the people gave them for teaching their children. it was mostly all Irish books that (that) were used and Irish subjects that were taught in those hedge schools. The children used to write with slates and slate pencils whichw ere sold at a half-penny each. The seats they had were stones.
