In olden times, people had three meals each day, breakfast, dinner and supper. Breakfast was eaten when the mornings work was done. The people ate porridge and potatoes and drank buttermilk. Potatoes were used twice a day and porridge once. Milk was drunk at each meal. Buttermilk was drunk with potatoes at dinner. The vessels thy used were called noggins which were made of wood. Wooden spoons were also used. Sometimes the table was placed in the centre of the floor, and when the kitchen was small, the people ate their meals at a long stool that was placed near the wall.
Oatmeal bread which was made from oatmeal and water was eaten. It was baked on a griddle in front of the fire. Meat was never eaten except at(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
