- In recent times there were many old Irish customs at the time of marriages. Not like noawadays there was a certain time of the year that most marriages used to take place from the new year to Shrove Tuesday, which is the tuesday before Lent. The month of May was said to be an unlucky month to get wed in, as was also Friday and Saturday believed to be two unlucky days.
In olden times there were no motor cars to take the couple to be married to the chapel. Some would walk while others would go on horseback.
