In a cow-house there is usually place for abou six cows. The cows are tied to stakes with a chain around their neck. The roof is made with slates or iorn. The floor is made of cement or paving stones.
Long ago the people were very superstitious about the fairies taking away the milk. A horse shoe or a cow's horn was hung over the cow-house door to prevent the fairies from taking the milk.
Some people keep goats to eat a herb that would kill sheep. Goat's milk is stronger and better to drink than cow's milk. Sheep's milk is never used. Goats are called names such as, "fanny," "jenny," or "nanny". Tinkers always keep a few goats. Some goats have very long horns.
