- Marriages most frequently take place in Rathmullen during Shrove. Shrove Tuesday is the last day for marriages until Lent is over. There are usually a number of marriages on that day, because people are forbidden to marry in Lent. The people in this district have local beliefs about Shrove. They believe that January is a lucky month to get married, they also believe that Monday and Thursday are lucky days to get married.
There is not much match-making in this district but some time ago there were matches made very frequently, but that custom is dying out now.
