sold and about twice yearly a firkin of butter, consisting of about eight stones, was sold by almost every farmer.
Hucksters, pedlars and dealers in feathers and rags were very numerous in this locality in former times and they still call occasionally - during the Summer Season.
The following story is told locally of a coin which always returned to the owner. Some Twenty-five or thirty years ago two men of this locality entered a public-house. One asked for two pints of beer - each costing three - pence. The drinks were supplied and in payment a coin - valued (Three) sixpence - was given. To their great surprise a sixpence was returned as change. They came to the conclusion that the attendant thought the coin was a shilling and so they asked for tow more pints of beer. They gave in the sixpence and again received sixpence change. At this they were amazed and on viewing the coin one of them noticed a little notch in the edge of it. A third time they got the same drink, gave in the same coin and a third time received the x=sixpence change. The now noticed that it was the same coin as the notch proved to be that of the sixpence given in payment
