    About forty years ago a severe snow-storm occured. The glens and ravines were covered and it was impossible to know where to walk. Several cattle were lost and also some lives as a result of the deep fall of snow
    The Big Wind of 1839 did much damage locally. Roofs were stripped of the houses. Some houses were knocked. Carts were swept from the yards and blown into rivers. Hay was swept out of the barns by the force of the gale and all the countryside was left in a most disastrous state.
    Several big floods have occurred in the district. About ten years ago a great flood arose which caused serious losses to the farmers. Cattle were swept away, fields, meadows and gardens were flooded and crops were also swept away.
    About eighteen years ago great drought continued in this district for about six weeks which did serious damage for several cattle died of drought
