- Marriages take place most frequently during Shrove. When marriages take place during Lent they are considered unlucky and also on Fridays throughout the year. Money is given to the girl when she is about to get married as her dowry. Stocks and goods are often given to the boy.
On the wedding day a feast is held at the house of the boy. Straw-boys always visit the house. They are dressed very funnily and get a kind reception at the house. Before the wedding approaches the chapel a number of men on horseback come first to show the people of the village that the procession was coming. A hauling home is held, this is a number of people proceeding homewards. More than a hundred years ago the marriages were held in the houses. When the marriage was over the newly married couple go on their honey-moon.- Bailitheoir
