- In olden times people use to go out in the land and gather herbs and boil them for medicine. When people had a toothache they got "slawnless", and broke it in small pieces and put it in the tooth. They also used a charm. People gave rounds in Churchyards to cure a toothache. People cured thrush by washing the throat in water and salt petre. When people had pains and sores they used to visit a holy well and give rounds. They washed the affected parts with the water and got relief. They used poultiers of ivy leaves and cabbage leaves to cure sore heads.
