- In Church Street, Ballybay, there is an old school. The teachers who taught in it were Master Ranson, Miss Lyster, Master Rowan, Mr. Lucas Gray, Mr. Joe Mc Clean were monitors in the school. My father got most of his education in the school which is now called the Prochical Hall and belongs to the Church. There was no Irish spoken or taught in the school The children were taught nearly the same subjects that are taught in the schools to-day. The children did not write with pen or pencil. They wrote on slates. Blackboards were used in the schools. The school teachers were paid very badly. They only got abut fifty or sixty pounds a year. In the townland of Ballidian, Ballybay there was an old school, which is now occupied by Mrs. Ferguson. The teachers were Master Rowland and Master Breakey.
