As the party arrived at the house of the bride, they were met by a person with a bottle of whiskey. Some of the whiskey was drunk there after which the bridegroom broke the bottle. Should the bottle fail to break with the first attempt it was regarded as an ill omen for the newly-married pair. Guests coming to a wedding used to bring loaves.
