- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)They build their nests of straw, twigs and mud and line them with hair.
The wren lays the smallest egg of all. She lays fifteen of them, they are white with brown dots. The pheasant lays the biggest egg of all. She lays twenty-five, they are white, like that of the wood-quest. The black-bird lays five blue eggs with white dots on them. The lark lays five black eggs. The crow lays five blue eggs, the waterhen seven blue ones with dark spots on them. They sit on the eggs from three weeks to a month.
"If the cuckoo whistles on a tree without leaves, sell your cows and buy corn" for there will be a wet summer. If the crow goes home low and noisy, it is a sign of rain, but if they go home high and silent it is a sign of fine weather. If the seagulls fly inland it is a sign of a storm coming.- Bailitheoir
