   Large mats were plaited out of straw and made to fit the bottom of each bed. On top of this a straw mattress was placed and lastly a feather tick. These feather ticks were very warm. Each sleeper in the bed made a nice little nest for himself in the feathers and was snug and cosy there.

   Chairs stools a dresser and a table completed the furnishing of the kitchen. The dresser was home-made and held all the delph. The plates especially, the large side dishes, were mostly willow pattern. The old people had a piece of poetry about this plate to describe its pattern. It went some thing like this :

   "Two men going to Dover
   A willow tree hangs over
   Three birds flying high
   A small boat passes by."

   The chairs were made out of thick blocks of wood which were made the shape required with an ordinary hatchet. An augur was used to make four holes to put the legs into.
