- Late in the year 1923, the Tony which is a tributary of the river Liffey, overflowed its banks during the late hours of Saturday night and as it happened at such an unusual hour, the people living near it were unaware of the fact, until they awakened on the following morning, which unfortunately happened to be Sunday.
The Main Street was flooded from top to bottom and the depth of the water was 2 1/2 feet.
As it is 14 years, since this occurred motor-cars were not so plentiful as they are nowadays and the people were thankful to have any kind of Vehicle, which would convey them as far as the Church so as to fulfil the Obligation.
