When the lime-kiln is burned scraws are put on the top of it to prevent any rain from getting into it because rain would spoil the lime. Sometimes the lime is put into barrels to keep it dry and clean. When the lime is fresh it is called quick lime. When it becomes old and damp it is called slack lime.
