Some years ago Cloonahee was a far more populous village than at present. The remains of several houses are still to be seen. Their inhabitants are either dead or emigrated to America.
No song or saying about the townland is heard at present but probably there were lots of them in ancient times, when people were more superstitious than now. The land on the whole is rich and very suitable for grazing. A small strip of bog is situated in one end of it. A large wood covers the northern part of the district with a beautiful lake in the middle. The wood provides wood for fuel and also shelter for game, such as, hares, rabbits and foxes. Flocks of pheasants visit it occasionally. The lake affords an abundance of fish. In the middle of the wood is a great high terrace built of stone. it is now covered with ivy and is a home for owls.
I think that no other district can compare with my own for beauty, good land and pleasant surroundings.
