the lighted sod was thrown into the gardens to bring luck on their crops. Little Christmas 6th January -it's eve 5th January is looked on as the holiest night of Christmas, people light the twelve candles in honor of the twelve apostles, first they get cow's manure and ashes and make a cake of it. they have the candles previously prepared, by pulling good strong rushes, they then dip them in grease, and leave them to cool, then they stick 12 of them into the cake of manure, they light them and while they are burning, the family say the rosary. When the candles are being lit, each member of the family is given a candle, and if your candle burns out the first, you will die the first, and if your candle is the last to burn out, you will live the longest.
