    noise in the yard. The girl opened the door and went out. While she was outside a big man with a tall hat entered. "Good night sir," said John O'Mahony the shoe-mender, but he got no reply. Then the big man went upstairs and scarcely had he arrived when a great noise was heard as if everything in the place was banged against the floor.
    After a short time the girl came in and said that the boss had not arrived.
    "Oh, he did," said the shoe-mender. "He had just gone upstairs."
    "Thats not him" said the maid, "Thats the ghost comes here regularly."
    "Oh, why did you not tell me that long ago." said John and after this he ran away home in dread of his life.
