At the party he called on his mother to give a toast. This is the toast she gave:-"May the God above

Who deprived us of our Leader."The leader mentioned was Parnell who whilst holding a political meeting in Castlecomer Co. Kilkenny had some lime pelted at him by his opponents, his eyes were badly burned. This incident gave rise to the thought underlying the late Mrs. Meagher's toast- Collector
