- In olden days people usualy partook of three meals daily, but during the famine period they lived on one. They went out fasting in the morning to feed the cows and milk them.
The food consisted mostly of Indian meal and porridge, and potatoes were eaten very often. Butter milk was often drunk. The table was always fastened to the wall with hinges and was hung up against it when not in use.
Oaten bread was usualy eaten. The bread was baked on a griddle. Meat was seldom eaten.Herrings, Ling and Hake were eaten abundantly and so were vegetables.
