  1. Snow storm on 24th Feburary 1933, and on the same date 1854. Several people lost their lives this year. 1879 & 1886 Wet years. Crops lost.
    End of 1879 & beginning of 1880 very heavy frost, over 9 inches of frost on land in this district.

    Very dry summers in 1884 and 1887. Fairly dry in 1893.
    The old people disliked the new moon on its back with a semi-circle underneath, or partly so, and the old moon shining through it, and also a new moon comin on Saturday. They regarded it as a sign of disagreeable weather.
    If the wind came from the north-west in the 4th week of March it was a sign of a dry summer.
    To see the gulls and blackstairs following the plough in early winter is a sign of sever weather.
