  1. Most marriages take place in the months of January and June in our district. The people in our district think that May and July are unlucky months and that Saturday and Monday are unlucky days.
    On Shrove Tuesday night there is a lot of pancakes made and people fry bacon and beef and they have a great feed before Lent. There are matches made in our district and there is money given as a dowry and there is also stock and goods given sometimes. People in our district do not remember marriages taking place in houses but some of them heard of them from old people but it is a very long time ago since that happened.
