    got into the boat and started for home again and very soon the old man landed Davie on his own door-step with his hundred gallons of poteen.
    Such were the stories Davie told, but I don't think any of them ever happened. In his early career he burned lime, but I don't think this paid as well as the poteen, he made £100, every time he made a "cast" of this illicit drink,
    This man was born in the year 1848 and he died in 1908 at the age of sixty years.
