- Churn Making.Mr. George Larke is a farmer, who lives in Killenure, about two miles from the town of Monasterevan. He is also a dry cooper and he makes churns and tubs. He turns out butter dishes and other wooden things. Bob Sunderland, his first cousin helps him. Mr. Larke makes two kinds of churns, dash churns and end over end churns. He makes them out of oak and deal. He buys a lot of barrels from breweries and cuts them down to make tubs and churns. He also buys oak logs and makes butter dishes out of them. He charges from twenty five to thirty shillings for a dash churn and from two to three pounds for an end over end churn. He has machines for turning the wood to make the churns and other articles. Mr. Larke's father taught him to be a cooper.Hugh Warren 9ad Feabra 1938.Std. V Age 12Address Skirteen, Monasterevan.
